- of cost and utility. The Singlyfire prairie chiminea is definitely NOT cast iron as suggested by its foreign supplier, but is constructed of a fair gauge sheet steel. Mine went together easily, without any hemispherical mating problems of the upper/lower halves. Before use I suggest painting it well inside and out with a 1200 degree grill-style spray paint; also using something like a DAP, high-temp mortar joint caulk at the chimney-body joints and over fasteners to prevent condensation gathering and rust from forming. You can expect a decent radiant heat when burning, as long as there's no wind, which will backdraft the grillwork (it having some misalignment latching problems.) The fire grate is cute - meant more for grilling burgers that holding a heavy ash bed and the vinyl cover is a good fit, though lightweight and likely wouldn't last much of a winter if the unit were left outdoors. Might be a good idea to clean and rinse the stove within 24 hours of any use to also prevent corrosion of the thin gauge fire pot All in all, though, not a bad buy for the money.
